HPM Foundation Awards College Scholarships to 10 Students on Hawai‘i Island and O‘ahu

KEA‘AU, HAWAI‘I (July 20, 2022) — The HPM Foundation has awarded college scholarships to seven local high school graduates and three Hawai‘i Community College students to help with upcoming college expenses and support student success.
“My great-grandfather, Barney Fujimoto, knew that education is life-changing,” said Jason Fujimoto, president and CEO, HPM Building Supply. “For nearly 40 years, the HPM Foundation has assisted hundreds of local students with their college aspirations in honor of his memory and our belief in helping the next generation to achieve their dreams. 2022 Barney S. Fujimoto Memorial Scholarship Recipients
Since 1973, the HPM Foundation has awarded the Barney S. Fujimoto Memorial Scholarship in memory of Barney S. Fujimoto, a second-generation leader of HPM Building Supply who held very strong convictions about the merits of higher education. Scholarship recipients receive $1,000 and are selected based on academic excellence and a history of strong community service, and must be enrolled full-time at a University of Hawai‘i System school.
● Nai‘a Balancio recently graduated from Konawaena High School on Hawai‘i Island and intends to major in exploratory health sciences at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.
● Kamakana Gilman recently graduated from Kahuku High & Intermediate School on O‘ahu and intends to major in education at the University of Hawai‘i — West O‘ahu.
● Brook-Lynn Haa recently graduated from Waiākea High School on Hawai‘i Island and intends to major in natural science with a concentration in biological sciences at Hawai‘i Community College.
● Dinh Huynh recently graduated from W.R. Farrington High School on the island of O‘ahu and intends to major in liberal arts at Honolulu Community College.
● Ariana Kakugawa recently graduated from Kalani High School on O‘ahu and intends to major in liberal arts at Kapi‘olani Community College.
● Michael Kitamura recently graduated from Waiākea High School on Hawai‘i Island and intends to major in engineering at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
● Kaitlyn Sakamoto recently graduated from James Campbell High School on O‘ahu and intends to major in psychology at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
2022 HPM Building Future Builders Scholarship Recipients
The HPM Building Future Builders Scholarship is given to select students in the Hawai‘i Community College Carpentry program. Each recipient receives a $750 scholarship for their second year in the program. This year’s recipients are:
